Reproductive Health in the Philippines

During elections, the issue on reproductive health will once again be dragged in the choice of candidates. But this scenario has been going on in the past few elections. The issue on reproductive health should not be treated as a campaign slogan. The bottomline in this issue is right to life and quality of life.

Pro and Anti-RH advocates should rise above the egoistic mindset of who gets one's way. There are three sides to every issue, and this one is no exemption. If both sides sincerely endeavor to achieve the good for our society, there is certainly one way of harmonizing their standpoints.

Harmony is not achieved by imposition. Each side should endeavor to listen, not so much in their differences but on matters they both agree upon. These commonalities they can use to settle disagreaable points. Certain compromises will be reached. Parameters defined.

This may be a tedious process. But this is one process that should not be railroaded by those who took upon themselves to decide for the rest of the Filipino couples.

At the core of this is the issue of reproductive and women's health, not religion or anything else. It's all about ensuring the health of our people and offering them choices to ensure that."
