Almost 1 Million Dinner

The recent issue being hurled at President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the enormous bill incurred for a dinner at a posh New York restaurant, Le Cirque.

The Palace claims that the post was "overly exaggerated." Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said that there were only about two tables taken and what they ordered was a set of menu common to hotels and restaurants around the world. Juan De la Cruz did not spent a single centavo on that simple dinner.

However, contradicting statements can be gleamed from the press release:

1)Leyte's First District Represantative Martin Romualdez hosted and footed the bill. - He also did not charge it to Juan de la Cruz?

2) Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez, one of the 28 lawmakers who accompanied Mrs. Arroyo during the US visit, said the price tag for the dinner was “reasonable.” “The food is good but the place is not fashionable. With our numbers, the $20,000 is cheaper,” Suarez said.

Since Filipinos are hospitable people, Suarez said the delegation allowed those who accompanied them to partake of dinner, “including the American security personnel assigned to the President by the State Department.”
- Press Secretary Remonde said they occupied only two tables!
- And the place not being fashionable?

Let us take a look at the menu in Le Cirque, available at their website:

Halibut Poached in Coconut Milk

Duck Confit and Green Mango Salad

Tuna

Lamb

Mille Feuilles

Rabbit, Bacon Terrine
Seabass Rhubarb Broth

Looks sinfully delicious! For the ultimate taste of the good life - Le Cirque also offers private dining.

How I wish Representative Romualdez will also have the good heart to treat his constituents to even just a fraction of this experience.

Apples are pretty affordable these days. (",)
