Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio: Not Sorry for the Punching Incident

The punching incident shown on national television on Friday sent conflicting reactions among viewers.

The sheriff looks pitiful for his fate in the hands of the tough lady executive of Davao City. But, Mayor Duterte's actions were said to have been necessitated by the lack of consideration on her request to delay for two hours the enforcement of the order for her to ensure that no violence will ensue in the demolition.

It is best to note that prior to the arrival of Mayor Duterte, a policeman and three civilians were already hurt in the incident.

While the action seemed unladlylike and dishonorable, (a single punch would have been enough, if I were in her place), I find her action justified. After all, the sheriff wasn't barred from implementing the order but simply requested to delay in order to ensure that no one will be hurt.

Law is law. But it should be implemented with reason, consideration and common sense. The sheriff was only ordered to demolish structures...not risk the lives of many, which is not improbable to happen given the heated confrontation.

While some call it politicking, really, if people had died, the Mayor will be blamed for not putting order, for not giving the necessary assistance in the implementation of a court order.

It can be gleamed how the people easily behaved upon the direction of Mayor Duterte, a scenario you'll not likely see in a demolition in Manila.

Next time Sheriffs, give your government officials a little respect, after all, they are the ones responsible for the general welfare of their constituents.
