Darna. . . Through the Years

Our very own heroine - Darna, will fly again in the upcoming television show in GMA 7. This will be the third television series to date.

Darna first came to the Filipinos' imagination in 1951 potrayed by Rosa del Rosario. She starred again in its second release in 1952 - Darna at Ang Babaeng Ahas.



In 1963, Liza Moreno donned the sexy outfit in Isputnik vs. Darna.



It seemed that the Filipinos cannot get enough of Darna as manifested by the follow-up movies Darna at Ang Babaeng Impakta (1965) and Darna at Ang Babaend Tuod (1966) which both starred the voluptous Eva Montes.



Sexy and comely Gina Pareño gave the Darna role a mark of its own, in Darna at ang Planetman (1969).



1973 saw the portrayal of Darna by Vilma Santos in Lipad, Darna, Lipad. She is the youngest, to date, to land the role in a movie.



Rio Locsin is the 80's Darna with the release of Bira, Darna, Bira (1980).



The succeeding Darnas will be portrayed by Nanette Medved in Darna the Movie (1991)



and Anjanette Abayari in Darna Ang Pagbabalik (1993).



But nothing is more exciting and looked forward to than the television series of Darna. The following is reminiscent of its foreign counterpart - WonderWoman. Lorna Tolentino first potrayed the role in 1981.



After 24 years, Darna was brought to life by Angel Locsin, becoming one of the highest rated show in Philippine Television.



This year, Marian rivera will don the Darna costume in yet another highly anticapated portrayal touted to rival that of Angel Locsin.
